AI Architects
What a week! This week, Youth4Youth was with ESF South Island School, ESF Quarry Bay School and ESF Bradbury School to teach the students about the connections between AI and architecture, a perfect way to complement their Design Technology lessons! Students learnt about the concept of generative design, where the designer inputs design goals and constraints and the AI generates multiple design options that meet those requirements. We also taught the students about image recognition and analysis where AI algorithms can analyse images and identify patterns, colours and other features to inform the design process. For example, an AI algorithm could analyse user-generated images on social media to identify popular colour schemes and design trends. Students enjoyed seeing how AI can also be used to create blueprints of a design after giving it a prompt, general size, and colour.
Youth4Youth introduced the students to Tinkercad, an online 3D modelling program, and they were given the task of designing the exterior and interior of a house. Students also explored REimagine Home, a software to redesign any space using AI, and discussed what this software would mean for architects and designers. This led us into a discussion about how AI can disrupt industries and what the architecture will be like in the future. We ended off the session with a competition involving Homestyler, a software that provides online 3D interior design tools to designers, where the students competed to create the best interior design!
